Midway between Colombo and Galle, just past Beruwala and the 57km post you come to a large Mara gaha on the seaside of Galle Road. A small road leads off to many tourist Hotels on the Beruwala Beaches as sign posted on this large tree.

This property is surrounded by three Buddhist Viharas. The Buddhist Vihara on the south side is seen on this photograph.
There is large ancestral home at this junction known as Maragaha bend. This house built during the Dutch era was converted to a Gallery cafe by Anula Meier Radalage. After 3 months of renovations she had a soft opening of the cafe on 25th December, the day before the Tsunami changed everything. Luckily the house being sufficiently far from the beach had only flooding of the grounds by a few inches of sea water.
After few attempts to keep it open after the Tsunami, it closed for economic
reasons in August 2005.
