George VI - One Cent
A definitive decimal currency 1 cent copper coin. In 1942 September 8th, the thicker coin changed to this bronze of half the weight in low relief to conserve metal for war. Copper 97%; Zinc 2.5%; tin 0.5%.

For the 1942 selection process, a pattern was struck in Black Bakelite was minted by a private firm which was not viewed kindly by the Royal Mint.
The coin with frozen year 1945 continued to be restruck till 1962, long after Ceylon independence in 1948 and 10 years into the reign of Queen Elizabeth II !!!

The Mint figure above from Royal Mint Reports and Sallay's records, match Pridmore(1961) and total of year 1945 of 34,100,000 given by Remick(1968) and Robert Harris(1970). The order of 1959 April was minted in India and is not reflected in the Royal Mint reports since it is after Indian Independence.
The initial order of 1960 September was placed with the India Government Mint, and was cancelled and placed in 1960 November with Royal Mint in London which did all subsequent minting of coins for Ceylon.
