A definitive decimal currency One Rupee brass plated Steel coin with a alternat milled + plain edge, first issued 2005 December 14th. It was to circulate along side the older coin which remained legal tender.

Obverse : The Armorial Ensign of Sri Lanka
Reverse : The value ONE RUPEE in Sinhala, Tamil and English below and year of issue at the bottom within a circle of the traditional Sinhala Liyavela art with Sri Lanka in Sinhala on top.

It is smaller in both size and weight then both the current 1 rupee coin at 25.4 mm and 7.13 grams and current 50 cent coins at 21.5 mm and 5.51 grams.
