SRI LANKA - Five Rupee
A definitive decimal currency Five Rupee brass plated Steel coin with a milled edge, first announced on 2005 December 14th and first issued on December 27th(? or was it 22nd). It was to circulate along side the older coin which remained legal tender.

Obverse : The Armorial Ensign of Sri Lanka
Reverse : The large numeral 5 at the centre with FIVE RUPEES in Sinhala, Tamil and English superimposed. SRI LANKA in Sinhala appear at the apex and Tamil and English on each side. The year of issue at the bottom. The coin is 2.7 MM thick and has incused lettering C.B.S.L. on edge in Sinhala, Tamil and English.

It is 13% thinner and 19% lighter then both the older brass 5 rupee
coin at 3.1 mm and 9.5 grams.
